A local lad to Thornton-Cleveleys, Archie Lang, is into his second full season playing first team football and to be at the club you’ve lived near all your life must be something to be proud of. Lang was a part of the title winning team when Thornton-Cleveleys clutched top of the league with only a one point gap on the last day of the season.

After watching Lang week in week out, you can just sense the potential this young lad has and could defiantly live up to. This season in the North West Counties League, the youngster has played a pivotal role in the Reds’ success as he’s scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists. A couple of occasions stand out when talking about Lang’s numbers, one being, when he inspired Thornton-Cleveleys to come back from a 2-0 deficit. Lang stepped up to rocket a shot from an impossible angle on the brink of half time, and the Reds’ ended up winning the game 3-2. Lang also played a big part away to Ashton Athletic, he scored a brace including a winning header he then slotted away a penalty to finish off a great 4-2 win.

Lang is a high versatile player, this season he has played half of his games in midfield and the other half at right back. However, he doesn’t let his position on the team sheet affect his game, the 19-year-old is always trying to wriggle his way into the attacking line to provide for his team, and 3 of his 5 goals this season have come from a defensive position. Lang’s best trait is his dribbling, I don’t think there has been a time when he has received the ball and hasn’t beat a man, his agility shines in big moments to weave through oppositions and create chances for his team.
As well as on the pitch, Lang also sets an example off it.
There must be a reason why he is also vice captain of Thornton-Cleveleys at the age of 19. For his age Lang is a very mature player knowing when he needs to plough forward and when to stay back and support his team defensively. The youngster isn’t a shy voice on the pitch either, motivating his squad to win games and this is proven in the results I mentioned earlier.
Archie Lang is a brilliant example of a prospect player.
