Young footballer aiming to cycle a big mile for charity

Updated: Mar 26

12-year-old, Jayden Wright, will be completing a 60 mile charity bike ride on the 22nd March 2025, to raise funds for Brian House and also to help his football team go on tour.

The young Manchester United  fan will begin at Old Trafford, Manchester and then finish at Thornton-Cleveleys football club, Gamble Road – the club that Jayden currently plays for and has done since the age of 6.

Though the distance of the ride is far, this isn’t the first time Jayden has raised money for charity by biking for a long duration.

Just last year, Jayden rode 40 miles from Sale Sharks AJ Bell Stadium to Preston Grasshoppers when he was playing for the rugby club at the time, Jayden managed to raise over £2000 for the children’s mental health charity, Place 2 be.

Jayden said the reason for raising money is because he wants sport to be more inclusive:

“There were a couple of kids that were disabled at my rugby club and place 2 be is a charity for them.

“I want everyone to be included so that’s why I decided to raise the funds.

“It’s for them, the people that are less able, to allow them to play the sport instead of being left out.

“We wanted to change it this year and because I’m a United fan it just made sense to start at the stadium and finish at the club that I play for.

“We chose Brian House as it’s a local charity that have done a lot at my school so they caught my eye.”

Jayden will be riding with his dad on the big day, and they’ve both trained through the cold and dark months.

Neil, Jayden’s dad, said how proud he is of his son:

“I’m immensely proud of him for such a young lad to take on a big challenge like this, he should feel proud in himself.

“I think he’s done great and loads of people have sponsored and helped Jayden so that is amazing to see as well.

“He was only 10 the last time we did this and now he’s 12 and it’s another 20 miles extra, most grown adults wouldn’t think to ride this far let alone someone as young as Jayden.”

When Jayden arrives at the club in time for kick off, he will get the opportunity to ride the match ball in for Thornton-Cleveleys game against Maghull.
