Midweek Matchups

Tuesday night football is a staple on the non-league calendar but which games in this midweek fixture list are ones to keep an eye out for.

National League

All focus is on the play offs this Tuesday in the National League.

Rochdale host Altrincham at the Crown Oil Arena in a clash between seventh and eighth, just three points separate the clubs but the home side do have two games in hand.

The Greater Manchester side go into the game having won their last three games in all competitions, which included a 2-0 victory over Altrincham in the FA Trophy just 10 days ago.

If The Dale can keep up their winning form it will see them leapfrog their opponents and into the play off places while a win for the travelling side will allow them to keep Rochdale at arm’s length.

It’s certainly a week to get to Greater Manchester, just as the Eastleigh fans will be doing, as they hope to keep any promotion chances, they have alive in their game against Oldham Athletic.

Despite sitting in fifth, The Latics haven’t won a game in their last seven attempts and with the three teams below them (Halifax Town, Altrincham and Rochdale) having games in hand over Oldham, the seven point buffer to eighth could quickly close in.

Eastleigh don’t have their season in their own hands as just like tonight’s opponents they have played more than the teams around them, but a win will certainly keep them in the fight if future results go their way.

National League North

Take your pick in this division, a lot of teams have a lot of stakes riding on tonight’s results.

Brackley Town currently sit top on 70 points, just one point above Scunthorpe United and three above Chester FC.

Brackley will travel to Kings Lynn Town who have their own promotion dreams to chase as they sit in seventh, just inside the play off spots.

Brackley will be hoping Alfreton Town can send Scunthorpe back home empty-handed tonight but United’s their 11-game unbeaten run has them in fine form.

Third place, Chester FC host relegation threatened Warrington Town needing to win if The Seals are to keep up in the title race, but three points for Warrington might prevent them being cut a drift of safety.

Kidderminster Harriers will also be keeping tabs on these games on their journey to Leamington as they are not out of the title race by any means.

Curzon Ashton welcome Chorley FC to the Tameside Stadium, in what could be the game of the night.

Chorley will be looking to continue their momentum after a comeback win against Chester on the weekend and cement their name in the playoffs.

Despite sitting outside the top seven, Curzon are a favourite for the play offs.

With games in hand, combined with a more than healthy points total, making the most of these games against the top teams could see them shoot up the league and into the top four.

Both teams have an outside shout at the title as well so expect a great game of football between two top sides.

National League South

In the National League South, Dorking Wanderers and Truro City will be looking to apply some pressure on top of the league Worthing.

Worthing set the tone last night with a win over Aveley but wins for Dorking and Truro would see them close the gap to one point before the weekend’s action.

Both sides are on the road, Truro will head to mid table Chippenham Town while Dorking have a tough away day at Maidstone United.

Maidstone will be looking to extend the four-point gap between themselves and the teams outside the play offs.

The Wanderers will need to collect themselves after dropping points from being 2-0 up at the weekend against Farnborough in a game where a win would’ve given Dorking a chance to go top tonight.

At the other end of the table, wins for Enfield Town and Salisbury will create breathing space between them and the relegation places.

Enfield are just two points above the drop and a home win against Hampton and Richmond would do them a world of good.

Salisbury sit slightly comfier with four points between them and St Albans and Welling so a win tonight could see them edge closer to confirming their position in the league next year.

However, a trip to Torquay United won’t be an easy evening as they look to make it three wins in a row and break the 70-point mark.

Plenty of intriguing fixtures to take a look at this Tuesday across the country with promotion and relegation battles heating up as we head into the run in at the end of the season.
